The Classroom Management Scheduling Unit develops all class schedules
for use of approximately 300 general purpose classrooms having 23,000
seats in more than 60 buildings on the U of M East Bank, West Bank
and St. Paul campuses.
Scheduling maintains the course database, produces the Course Guide and
Class Schedule each semester, and develops all final exam schedules. Additionally,
the unit is responsible for class schedule planning, classroom space utilization
analysis and reporting.
OCM Scheduling attempts to meet the teaching needs of all faculty members,
based on the course information submitted by academic departments
in the Electronic Course Authorization System (ECAS), and
requirements submitted by academic departments in the ECS
(Electronic Course Scheduling) system. It is important that
departments using this system accurately identify enrollment
requirements and all A/V, projector and technology needs.
Due to the complexity of scheduling on such a large scale, this
process starts months in advance of the academic term concerned.
It is vital that requirements of the teaching faculty be correctly
identified and submitted when due by the departments. Classroom
Management Scheduling Unit members keep in close contact with the
scheduling coordinators from each department in order to meet the
individual needs of faculty and the collective needs of the University.
This unit also schedules all events held in general purpose classrooms.
Requests for events should be submitted by fax or email at least
30 days in advance. Requests should contain complete identification
and contact information of the requesting group (including the student
group registration number) as well as details of the event.
Class Schedules can be found at One
Stop.
