10 Ways for Departments and Colleges to Reduce the Classroom Shortage
 
  1. Submit Course Information accurately and on time (during ECS Period 1).
    Use ECS reports to manage course submissions.
  2. Minimize changes after initial course information is submitted.
  3. Teach courses in accordance with University Senate approved standard times.
  4. Teach no more than 60 percent of courses (60/40 percent Guideline) at peak hours (0900 – 1415).

    NOTE: DO NOT LOAD ALL NON-PEAK COURSES AT 1430!!!

  5. Make departmental classrooms available for central scheduling.
  6. Manage projected enrollment numbers - do not inflate or unrealistically overestimate.
  7. Manage actual registration numbers after start of registration - make early course cancellation decisions if insufficient registrants.
  8. Help Scheduling identify low-enrollment courses assigned to classrooms - move them to departmental conference, meeting or classrooms.
  9. Do not allow misuse of class permission/magic numbers.
